Karachi, June 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): City Administration has decided to initiate strict crackdown to control the prices of essential commodities at the advent of Ramzanul Mubarak so as to that profiteers are discouraged to enhance the prices before Ramzan.
In this connection action will be taken against the hoarders at Sabzi Mandi and other places. Their Illegal Electric connections at the cold storages would also be cut off in joint actions to be taken by the FIA, K-Electrict and city administration. The decision was taken in a meeting held to review the campaign against profiteers initiated by the city administration. Meeting was chaired by the Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqi at his ofice.
Chairman of the Price control committee Additional Commissioner Karachi -II Haji Ahmad briefed the meeting about the steps being taken with regards to the price control campaign. Representatives of the NGOS (non government organizations) working for the rights of consumers and Officials of the Bureau of Supply also attended the meeting.
The meeting decided that a vigilance team comprising the officials of city administration, K-electric and FIA would be set up to take actions against such hoarders using illegal connections to hoard the essential food items, The team has been asked by the commissioner Karachi to immediately disconnect the electricity connections of such hoarders so the hoardings can be stopped and city administration can ensure bringing down the prices at the advent of the Ramzan.
It was also decided that Deputy Commissioner east would also initiate actions against hoarders and check the godowns at Sabzi Mandi and at other places in the district. Commissioner Karachi also asked the Bureau Supply to raid illegal godowns of hoarders and take actions against them.
Meanwhile a meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui reviewed the exercise being undertaken for the preparation of Ramzan Package and fixation of prices of essential commodities for the month of Ramzanul Mubarak to provide relief to the common people during Ramzanul Mubarak.
The traders, manufacturers and Non government organisations working for the rights of consumers also attended the meeting. Additional Commissioner Karachi =II Haji Ahmad briefed the commissioner Karachi about the progress of process for the preparation of Ramzan Package and fixation of special prices for the month of Ramzan.
It was informed in the meeting that detailed deliberations with the traders, whole sellers, retailers and manufacturers are being made to fix the prices to provide maximum relief to the consumers on all essentials food items and various meetings have been held with the manufacturers of the food items for the finalization of Ramzan Package.
It was also decided in the meeting that a list of the fixed prices and a Ramzan Package to be given by the manufacturers would be announced in a press conference before Ramzan by the commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui.
It was also decided that all concerned stake holders including the whole sellers, traders, retailers, manufacturers, associations working for the rights of consumers would also be invited to attend the press conference.
