Karachi, June 24, 2014 (PPI-OT): Ten Pakistani companies, under the auspices of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) are participating in the 21st edition of Southern African International Trade Exhibition for Retail Products (SAITEX) and Africa Big Seven (AB7), which are being held, concurrently in Johannesburg, South Africa from 22-24, June, 2014. This is the largest show of Sub-Saharan Africa wherein more than 1000 exhibitors from 52 countries are participating.
The target of the fair is the retails sector with focus on importers, agents, distributors, wholesalers. International business interest in Africa is all time high as the research proves that seven out of world’s top ten fastest growing economies are in Africa. From Pakistan leading companies like Engro Pakistan, Habib Oil Mills, Ismail Industries, Khyber Chemicals, Denim Clothing, Maheen Textiles, Silver Lake etc are participating in the exhibition.
South Africa is the most important and largest trading partner of Pakistan in the African Continent of 54 countries. South Africa is the biggest economy of Africa with GDP of 390 billion US and total trade of US$ 210 billion. Traditionally, it is called as gateway to Africa and it plays critical role in the socio-politico and economic milieu of African continent. South Africa has FTAs with EU, member of BRICS, SACU, SADC, FTA with US (AGOA), and member of numerous other vital preferential trading agreements.
South Africa imported goods worth US$ 285 million from Pakistan (2013) while the total South African imports were US $ 106 billion (2013), thereby, reflecting a huge potential for Pakistani goods. Pakistani exports to the Sub-Saharan Africa increased by 8% during 2013.
Trade Commission of Pakistan has made all the arrangements for holding this exhibition including reservation of space, construction of stall, reception of the exhibitors, their B2B meetings, marketing of the show amongst the local business community etc. It is expected that contacts established during the show will materialize into concrete businesses in future.
Around 20,000 visitors not only from South Africa, but from all the Sub-Saharan African countries are expected to visit these exhibitions. Mr. Najm us Saqib, High Commissioner of Pakistan for South Africa visited the exhibition and assured all the exhibitors of fullest cooperation to make their stint productive and beneficial.
