In a recent development, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has intervened in the hiring process at Punjab University’s administration, putting a stop to the recruitment of new faculty members without proper authorization.

A letter sent to the Punjab University administration by the ECP states that new faculty appointments cannot proceed without proper approval.

The letter highlights that the university’s advertisement for the recruitment of new professors, which was issued on July 29th, contradicts the Election Act of 2017. As a result, the advertisement for new hires needs to be immediately withdrawn.

This move by the Election Commission has raised questions about the university’s hiring practices and compliance with electoral laws. University officials are expected to address these concerns and work towards ensuring that future hiring processes align with legal requirements.

The intervention by the Election Commission underscores the importance of adhering to electoral regulations, even in academic institutions, to maintain transparency and integrity in the hiring of personnel. Further developments regarding this issue are awaited.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSX: PSMC) has decided to shut down the motorcycle plant for three days, the automaker informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

“Due to shortage of inventory level, the management of the company has decided to shut down the motorcycle plant from September 20, 2023, to September 22, 2023. However, the automobile plant will remain operative. Further update, if any, in this regard will be communicated accordingly,” the filing stated.

During 2023, the Japanese automaker has announced shutdowns several times. Last month, it said it would keep its motorcycle plant shut from August 18 till August 31. Later on August 31, the company announced that the plant would remain shut till September 12 and on September 12 the shutdown was extended till September 15.

It made similar announcements in July, June, and May as well, citing reasons such as low inventory level or a lack of raw material.

Suzuki, the largest automaker in Pakistan in terms of production and sales, has sustained a severe decline in sales and revenue due to intermittent production pauses. Since 2022, industry players in general have expressed concern about facing difficulties in obtaining import permits for their production quotas.

The Pakistan Football Federation is facing scrutiny as it has emerged that the salary of the former Assistant Coach, Torben Witajewski, remains unpaid.

Further complicating matters, the football federation has not maintained any communication with Witajewski for over two months regarding future events.

Witajewski’s tenure with the national team is hanging by a thread, as he has not been offered an extension following the SAFF Championships.

Previously, the football federation had brought on board Witajewski, a German football analyst, to serve in dual capacities as an analyst and assistant coach.

His appointment was strategic, aimed at boosting performance in the 4-nation tournament in Africa and the subsequent SAFF Championships held in India.

In addition, many other coaches and players have not yet been paid there salaries as well. Furthermore, there have been many issues circulating in the women’s football team as well.

In another development, the Pakistan team improved in the latest FIFA World rankings, despite their inability to secure a single victory in recent events.

Pakistan lost three games against Maldives, Mauritius, and Kenya in the four-nation Cup, conceding six goals in three matches and failing to score any.

Pakistan concluded their SAFF campaign at the bottom of the Group A points table, failing to score a single goal in three matches and conceding nine in the process.
