285 wine bottles, 6.60 kg hashish and 1.250 kg heroin seized

Islamabad: Islamabad Police on Sunday arrested 11 persons from various areas of the city and recovered a total of 285 wine bottles, 1.250 kilogram heroin, 6.60 kilogram hashish and eight cans of beer from their possession, a police spokesman said.

On a tip off, Station House Officer of Shehzad town police station Inspector Raja Tahir constituted a special team including ASI Muhammad Haneef and others to foil the bid of wine smuggling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad through a car. This team stopped a car RLA-3490 near Zia Masjid and overpowered one car occupant Taaruf while two others later identified as Sarwar and Bhatti managed to escape. A total of 250 wine bottles were recovered from the boot of the car and further investigation is underway from the nabbed persons.

ASI Azhar Mehmud and Muhammad Riaz from CIA police nabbed Shaukat Mehmud and Hafeez Ullah in possession of 30 wine bottles while ASI Safdar Hussain from Kohsar police station apprehended Nazar Muhammad for having five wine bottles.

Similarly, ASI Qamar Ejaz from Sabzi Mandi police arrested an accused Tauqeer for having eight cans of beer.

Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Ajmal and Muhammad Muneer from Tarnol police station nabbed Ishaq Maseeh and Muhammad Afzal for having five kilogram hashish while Sub-Inspector Muhammad Basheer form CIA Police arrested Abdul Majeed for having 150 gram hashish. ASI Muhammad Nawaz from Golra police arrested an accused Nazeer for having 250 gram heroin while Sub-Inspector Shamas Iqbal apprehended Haji Gul and Syed Tanveer for having 910 gram hashish.

Cases have been registered against the nabbed persons and further investigation is underway.

SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam has appreciated this overall performance and directed all police officials to further maintain high vigilance in their respective areas.
