304 criminal gangs busted, 822 POs arrested in 2011

Islamabad: In a crackdown against those involved in crime of heinous nature, Islamabad Police arrested 822 proclaimed offenders and also successfully busted 304 criminal gangs besides nabbing 1077 persons associated with it, a police spokesman said.

In a report presented to Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, it has been revealed that a total of 11 gangs involved in blind murder cases were traced and a total of 26 persons involved in it had been arrested. During the same period, a total of four gangs involved in kidnap for ransom had been busted and sixteen kidnappers were also apprehended.

During this year, utmost efforts had been made to arrest proclaimed offenders and a total of 822 proclaimed offenders were arrested. City Circle arrested 198 proclaimed offenders, Saddar Circle arrested 197 proclaimed offenders while Industrial area and Rural Circle nabbed 81 and 346 proclaimed offenders respectively.

The IGP Bani Amin Khan has said that commitment and devotion by the personnel of Islamabad police despite several constraints made them successful against the criminal elements this year. He said that police officers and jawans remained firm against the menace of terrorism and also emerged successful during the ongoing year in countering criminal elements, the murderers, drug pushers, robbers and criminal gangs.

In a bid to curb immoral activities, he was told that Islamabad police traced 27 gangs and arrested 211 persons involved in such acts. Three gangs involved in rape activities were arrested and 11e persons were also arrested.

Similarly, 15 gangs involved in dacoities, 40 gangs involved in snatching valuables at gun point, 119 gangs involved in theft and burglary cases, 18 gangs of car thieves, eight gangs of selling vehicles after tempering them were also busted during 2011. In the meantime, 59 gangs were busted involved in crime of miscellaneous nature and its 163 persons were arrested.

IGP Bani Amin after reviewing the report said that policing has become very much tough job in the present situation but one should appreciate those performing well as the ratio of the total traced cases and countering terror threats is really appreciable.
He said that citizens are, and should be proud of the fact that Islamabad Police, barring a few cases, have always performed diligently and respond quickly to SoS calls from public.

SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan has appreciated this performance and said that main reason behind this success is the strategy of community and vigilant policing. He vowed to continue these efforts for effective policing and make police department service-oriented in real manner.
