3G, 4G Users Reach 90.5 Million in Pakistan

The number of 3G and 4G users in Pakistan reached 90.5 million by the end of December 2020 compared to 88.8 million by the end of November, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) data showed.

This is an increase of 1.7 million subscribers in one month.

The number of Mobile phone users in Pakistan reached 175.62 million by the end of December compared to 173.67 million by the end of November, which registered an increase of 1.95 million during the period under review.

Monthly Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration increased from 71.41 percent in June to 42.43 percent in December 2020.

Jazz’s total count for 3G users stood at 9.02 million by the end of December compared to 9.30 million by the end of November, registering a decrease of 0.28 million. Jazz 4G user numbers jumped from 23.9 million by the end of November to 25 million by the end of December 2020.

Zong 3G subscribers decreased from 5.46 million by the end of November to 5.29 million, while the number of 4G users jumped from 20.16 million by the end of November to 20.7 million by the end of December 2020.

The number of 3G users of Telenor decreased from 6.18 million in November to 6.04 million by the end of December. The number of 4G users jumped from 13.7 million in November to 14.21 million by the end of December 2020.

Ufone 3G users decreased from 4.73 million in November to 4.66 million in December. The number of 4G users of Ufone increased from 5.32 million by the end of November to 5.53 million by the end of December 2020.

Teledensity for cellular mobile increased from 81.57 in November to 82.34 percent. The broadband subscribers increased from 82.7 percent in November 2020 to 83.47 percent by the end of December 2020.

PTA received 13,832 complaints from telecom consumers against different telecom operators, including (cellular operators, PTCL, LDIs, WLL operators, and ISPs) as of December 2020.

The authority said that it was able to resolve 13,685 complaints, i.e., 98 percent.

According to PTA data, Zong had the highest number of complaints at 8,157, with Jazz at the second position as the most complained telecom operator with 2,865 complaints.

Cellular mobile subscribers constitute a significant part of the overall telecom subscriber base. Therefore, the maximum number of complaints belong to this segment. The total number of complaints against Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) by July stood at 13352.

In terms of the segregation of complaints on an operator basis, Zong stood first with 8,157 complaints, i.e., 61 percent of total complaints. A total of 2,865 complaints were received against Jazz, which is 21.45 percent of the total CMO related complaints.

Ufone had 897 complaints against its various services, which make up 6.4 percent of the total CMO related complaints.

Telenor, which has the second-largest number of consumers, was third with 1,404, i.e., 10.5 percent of the total complaints were received against it.

PTA also received 111 complaints against basic telephony, where 105 were addressed during December 2020. Further 355 complaints were received against ISPs, where 336 were addressed.
