Afghan Women Parliamentary Delegation call on National Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker

Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza has emphasized the need to enhance interaction between Women MPs of Pakistan and Afghanistan for resolution of problems commonly confronting both the neighbouring countries. She said that Women MPs of both the countries could play important role in national development of their respective nation. She was talking to four member Afghan Women Parliamentary delegation led by Mrs. Shinkai Karokhail who called on Madam Speaker in Parliament House, today.

Madam Speaker said that Pakistan and Afghanistan were confronted with poverty, extremism, illiteracy and economic problems, therefore, MPs of both the countries could collectively ponder upon and find solution to those problems. She said that ultimate sufferers of above problems were the women and children. She said that Women MPs in Pakistani Parliament have extensively contributed to address the plight of women and children. She said that visit of Afghan Parliamentarians would be mile stone in enhancing cooperation with their Pakistani counterparts. Madam Speaker extended support to the Afghan MPs for establishment of Women’s Parliamentary Caucus in Afghan Parliament.

Later on an interactive meeting was held between Parliamentarians from FATA and Afghan women Parliamentary delegation. Deputy Speaker, National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi chaired the meeting. Talking to the delegation Deputy Speaker said that Pakistan and Afghanistan were bonded in the eternal ties of brotherhood, religious, history and culture. He said that both the countries were victims of terrorism and joint efforts were needed to address this scourge from the region.

He said that Pakistan desired a peaceful and prosper Afghanistan and it is in the interest of whole region. He said that closer cooperation between Pakistan Afghanistan is necessary for peace and stability in the region. He said that Parliament of both the country can play an important role in strengthening the relations between two neighbouring countries. He underlined the need to enhance interaction between leadership and people to people contact for strengthening bilateral relations and closer cooperation.

Deputy Speaker also apprised the delegation about recent visit of Pakistan Parliamentary Delegation to Afghanistan. He said that a joint resolutions has been adopted by the parliamentarians of both parliaments. He stressed the need for implementation of joint resolutions adopted by the parliamentarians of the both the countries. He also apprised the delegation about the formation of FATA Parliamentary Caucus and problems being faced by the people of the area. The Members of the both side were agreed that poverty, unemployment and illiteracy in the FATA were the root causes of extremism and terrorism and stressed the need for development in FATA.

The head of delegation Mrs. Shinkai Karokhail appreciated the hospitality extended to Afghan Parliamentary delegation by the Pakistan Government and thanked for comprehensive briefing on Pakistan parliamentary system. She said that Pakistan and Afghanistan have tremendous commonalities. She underlined the need to enhance Parliamentary relation and economic cooperation to further cemented the relation between two brotherly country. The members who were present in the meeting were MNAs Munir Khan Orakzai, Maulana Noor ul Haq Qadri, Nawabzada Hammad Khan, Ms. Attiya Inayatullah Mrs. Azra Fazal Pechoho and Ms Donya Aziz.
