Karachi, December 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Monday rejected the SNGPL’s gas load management plan contemplating disconnection of natural gas supply to CNG sector for indefinite period.
The unilateral decision of the gas utility is against the interests of masses, violation of law and against the ground realities which will inflict untold miseries on the masses and leave millions unemployed, said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman Supreme Council APCNGA.
In a statement issued here today, he said that all the sectors facing disconnection can run their businesses by using furnace oil but the CNG sector has no alternate available except natural gas.
The erroneous decision will damage the CNG sector beyond repair, machinery will catch rust which would be impossible to operate after a long gap that amounts to sinking investment of Rs 450 billion in this important sector.
Calling for an immediate reversal of the SNGPL’s decision, Ghiyas Paracha said that complete gas suspension for the CNG sector for all the winter months is not agreeable as it has become integral part of the life of tens of millions of people.
Government should refrain from adding to the plight of masses, augment problems of the troubled CNG operators and hurting the limping economy, he warned adding that it will pave way for protests across the province of Punjab.
Ghiyas Paracha said that decision has been taken to please influential oil import mafia which will hurt forex reserves, bring currency under pressure, degrade environment, imbalance trade and result in heavy revenue losses.
He said that the decision can result in a default as forex reserves currently held by the SBP have already fell to almost three billion dollars, enough to support imports for just one month.
Ghiyas Paracha said the government should stop imposing from the negative policies and find acceptable solutions of the problems.
The government would need to import almost two hundred thousand tonnes of additional fuel if CNG supply is discontinued for three months that country can ill afford.
