Cairo Speaker of the Arab Parliament Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm al-Salami called on a number of European parliaments to urge their governments to recognize the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, WAFA reported.
In written letters to speakers of the parliaments of Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Greece, Luxembourg and Portugal, al-Salami asked them to urge their governments to recognize the Palestinian state, said an Arab Parliament statement on Wednesday.
Al-Salami also highlighted the deep historical and strategic relations between the Arab world and European countries as well as the common interests between the two sides. He further hailed the historical position of these European countries which supported the Palestinian cause by voting in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution of 21 December 2017, which affirmed that any decisions and measures aimed at changing the character, status or demographic structure of Jerusalem will have no legal effect.
