Bangladeshi students’ delegation visits Punjab University

Lahore: A 20-member students’ delegation from Bangladesh, under the leadership of Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hussain, visited the Punjab University on Thursday. The delegation, first, visited the PU College of Information Technology, where they were welcomed by College Principal Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Director External Linkages Maria Maldonado and other faculty members. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar briefed the delegation about the teaching programmes being offered at the College and apprised them about the academic and research progress made in recent years. He said foreign students had also been studying in the College which also provided scholarships to talented and needy students. The delegation visited the college’s library, IT lab, GIS Centre, seminar room, VC office, Senate and Sherani Halls.

The delegation went to Oriental College where Principal Prof. Dr. Mazhar Moeen told the delegation about the history, infrastructure, departments and the academic programmes. He also told the delegation that the College had been offering courses in foreign languages at the Institute of Languages. Advisor to VC Col (r) Ikramullah and Director External Linkages Maria Maldonado led the delegation to New Campus where they met with Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Javaid Ahmad, deans of faculties and senior faculty members in the Al-Raazi Hall of Centre for Undergraduate Studies, New Campus.

Registrar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhtar, Controller Examinations Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof. Dr. Qalb-i-Abid, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Prof. Dr. Hafiz Mahmood Akhtar, Director Undergraduate Studies Centre Prof. Dr. Amir Ijaz, RO-I Javed Sami and other faculty members.

Speaking on the occasion, the delegation’s leader Dr. Shahid admired the hospitality of the Punjab University and Punjab Government and said the students felt much pleasure to visit the varsity. He said the students’ visit would further develop mutual relations between the two countries.

Later, the delegation visited the Main Library and took a round of various sections of the library. The delegation members openly exchanged views on various topics with the students, present in the library. The delegation afterwards visited the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) where the Institute’s Director Dr. Ahsan Akhtar Naz briefed them about the academic and research programmes and faculty members of the Institute.

The delegates also visited library, TV studio and FM radio of the Institute. The Bangladeshi students also expressed their views about their visit to PU on the occasion and said they were given the impression that Pakistan’s security situation was no good but they found no issue with the security in Pakistan. Later, the delegation had lunch at the Executive Club.
