Karachi: The eight annual event organized by the Institute of Architects Pakistan – Karachi Chapter (IAP-KC) is inaugurated today by Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, the Provincial Minister for Revenue (Sindh) at Expo Center, Karachi. The event, branded as IAPex consists of Building Products Exhibition and Conference on the theme of ‘Building Bridges’.
The chief guest Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar congratulated the Institute of Architects Pakistan – Karachi Chapter for organizing a mega event and pursuing the cause of bringing professionals, students and industry together to build a better Pakistan. Addressing the august gathering at the occasion, he urged the need of thinking globally and practicing professionally for a prosperous Pakistan.
Welcoming the participants of the exhibition and conference, the Chairman IAP-KC Ar. Arshad Faruqui said that IAPex is not only an exhibition of building materials and products, but it also offers a forum for intellectual discourse by the professionals.
Focusing on the theme of the conference, he said that Institute is trying to focus on the aspects which will help form a better understanding and relationship with the Building Industry, Professional Institutes, Educational Institutions and other organizations.
He further said, “Throughout the year, we have focused on events which has brought our Institute together and formed a better relationship between the senior and the younger generation of architects”.
Addressing on the occasion, Ar. Shahab Ghani President IAP appreciated the efforts of the Karachi Chapter and organizing team of the IAPex2012 and said that Architects play a unique role in mediating the public discourse on the choices we make to cope with Pakistan’s challenges and transform it into a viable state.
He further said, “This dialogue must now include players from other spectrums of the building paradigm such as manufacturers, social scientists, craftsmen and artists across the board”. More importantly, he said that architects must build bridges and harness relationships with the people who will ultimately live in the environment being built.
Expressing his gratitude to all the participants, supporters and sponsors, Convenor IAPex 2012 Ar. Adil Kerai said that over the past seven years IAPex has emerged as the most popular Building Materials Exhibition, not only in Karachi but also in many other cities of Pakistan.
Continuing to attract the target audience, IAPex is keenly attended and participated by leading manufacturers and suppliers of building industry. He thanked all fellow architects, colleagues and students who participated in the event and together making IAPex a pleasant experience.
It is important to note that IAP-KC has invited renowned professionals from Sri Lanka, Berlin and Pakistan to deliberate on the subject of ‘Building Bridges’ to highlight the importance of bridging gaps between various professionals and stakeholders engaged with building industry. The speakers include Ar. C. Anjalendran (Sri Lanka), Ar. Eike Roswag (Berlin), Ar. Raza Ali Dada, Ar. Hafiz Sher Ali, Roland deSouza, Ar. Yasmeen Lari, Ar. Syed Yawar Abbas Jilani and Ar. Gulzar Haider.
Concurrent to Exhibition and Conference, IAP-KC has also constituted a Students Design Charrette for IAPex 2012 to highlight some urban issues of Karachi and come up with creative design solutions to help ease the constant dilemma that every citizen of this city faces. This Design Charrette will culminate in presentations during the IAPex Conference by the student groups studying Architecture at various institutions of the Province of Sindh.
