Karachi: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday that the challenges confronting the country today required greater unity among the people of all political shades, to fight against the menace of terrorism and extremism. The enemies of the country, he said, wanted to deprive the people of peace, prosperity and development.

The government and all its institutions are determined to defeat the evil designs of such elements, he added. He was talking to Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Interior Minister Rehman Malik at the Governor House here after his visit to the site of Sunday’s terrorist attack at Mehran Naval Base and PNS Shifa hospital where attack victims are under treatment.

“The courage and bravery shown by the officers and Jawans of Pakistan Navy, Rangers and Police is a reflection of our nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from our soil”, he said.

Earlier, the Governor apprised the Prime Minister of various security measures taken to protect the life and property of the people in the province.

The Chief Minister also briefed Prime Minister Gilani on several decisions taken to strengthen the police and other provincial security agencies to ensure safety and protection of people as well as government property.
