Islamabad: A team of sixteen Probationary Officers of the Civil Services Academy, Walton, Lahore visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Head Office on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 and met leading members of the business community.
The team was welcomed at the Federation House by Mr. Shakil Ahmed Dhingra, Vice President-FPCCI. Also present on the occasion were Mr. Iqbal Dawood Pakwala, Vice President-FPCCI; Mr. Dawood Usman Jakhura, Immediate Past Vice President-FPCCI; Mr. Ebrahim Panwalla; and Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary General-FPCCI.
While welcoming the officers, Mr. Dhingra gave a brief introduction of FPCCI, and talked about its nationwide representation in all four provinces of Pakistan. He stated that FPCCI was actively involved in preparing proposals for the Federal Budget 2012-13, which would soon be presented to the Finance Minister in a meeting. He apprised the team that FPCCI plays the role of a liaison body between the Government and the private sector, and works on issues such as improving Pakistan’s market access in foreign markets, encouraging new industries, pursuing Pakistan’s interests with trading partners and giving proposals on trade and industry to the Government.
The leader of the team, Mr. Mohammed Farooq Adeel informed the businessmen that the officers were visiting FPCCI as part of their training under the 39th Common Training Programme to get a briefing on the role and functions of FPCCI in the national economy. He mentioned that the officers were from diverse backgrounds, including Customs, DMG, OMG, Inland Revenue, Police and Foreign Services, and this visit would help them acquaint them better with the working of the business community.
The meeting was concluded with a round of Questions and Answers by the officers, and presentation of the FPCCI crest to the leader of the delegation.
