Karachi, November 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): Consumers of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board will have to present a copy of their paid will with their complaints. In a high-level meeting Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has decided to impose this new rule to improve their billing and revenues system.
The meeting was chaired by Managing Director KW and SB Misbahuddin Farid whereas; DMD T and S Ali Mohammad Palejo, DMD Revenue Waqar Hashmi, All Chief Engineers and Officers of Revenue Department were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting improving the performance of the Revenue Department and strategies to ensure this were discussed. It was said in the meeting that KW and SB is a public service institution providing water and sewerage utilities to the citizens of Karachi. However, a large number of consumers don’t pay their bill and Tax, Bulk Recovery and Rental Department are also performing up to the mark.
Due to lack of cooperation from the consumers, the institution is on facing economic crises and it is therefore vital for the betterment of the institution that increase in revenue is ensured.
It was decided in the meeting that Revenue and Engineering Departments would work closely for this purpose and upon receiving complaints from a specific area Engineering Department would first contact the Revenue Department to find out that the tax collected from the area is satisfactory enough.
Furthermore, Revenue Department is directed to ensure that not only the bills are supplied to all the consumers on time but they also follow strategies to motivate consumers for paying the bills. This would improve the situation KW and SB is facing and in term the facilities provided by the institution to more than 20 million residents of Karachi.
