Islamabad: Creation of Collective Management Organization (CMO) would help to regulate the matters relating to protect the right of creators besides extending a helping hand to the music and film industry in Pakistan.
This was revealed in a joint meeting of music company representatives, officials of Intellectual Property Organization, PTA, Broadcasting Stations, and Mr. Ang Kwee Tiang Regional Director and Regional Counsel of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) for the Asia Pacific region who is in a visit of Pakistan to examine the constitution and functioning of Collective Management Organization (CMO).
The representatives of Broadcasting companies, TV channels and Production Houses, participated in the discussion and highlighted the core issues being faced by them, specially about the use of music contents and also inquired the functioning and mechanism of proposed (CMO).
Mr. Ang Kwee Tiang informed that the concept of the CMO was introduced in France where first CMO was established in 1777 and now there are 300 CMO’s working in world over. He mentioned the success stories of many countries where CMO’s are successfully working and contributing a lot to protect the interest of creators and performers.
Earlier, the Director Administration and Human Resource Mr. Messaq Arif highlighted the basic idea of CMO that is playing pivotal role in different countries and becoming a source of earning for the performers. He said that we want to safeguard the interests of performers as well as their promoters and users by evolving a balanced and mutually accepted strategy. It would help for generation of resources for those who are contributing in creation by using their skills and capabilities.
The other officers of IPO-Pakistan include Mr. Inam ul Haq, Syed Nasrullah, Mr. Saifullah Khan also participated in the debate and pointed out various issues being confronted at national and international level with regard to copyright and piracy.
Earlier, Mr. Ang Kwee Tiang visited Pakistan Television and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. On this occasion, he discussed matter about usage of music contents and performing artwork besides, provision of loyalties to the performers.
