Islamabad: Advisor to Prime Minster on Minority Affairs, Dr. Paul Bhatti has said the efforts of Shahbaz Bhatti for the promotion of interfaith harmony, religious freedom and equal rights for religious minorities will be continued.
He expressed these views while addressing a consultation meeting of All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) here today.
The church leaders and representatives of The Roman Catholic Church, The Church of Pakistan, The Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, The Salvation Army and others participated in the meeting. Bishop Humphrey Peters Bishop of Peshawar, Church of Pakistan presided over the meeting.
The church leadership appreciated the decision taken by President and Prime Minister for appointing Dr. Paul Bhatti as Advisor on Minority Affairs. They also expressed confidence in his leadership as Chairman of APMA and unanimously agreed to support and strengthen the Advisor as he strives to accomplish the cause and mission of Shaheed-e- Haq Shahbaz Bhatti.
Apart from the church leadership, the meeting was attended by Group Captain (Retd) Cecil Chaudhry, Executive General Secretary APMA, Pervaiz Rafiq, MPA Punjab, Prince Javed, MPA KPK, Saleem Khokhar, MPA Sindh, Michael Javed, Saleem Sindhu, Naveed Amer Jeeva and others.
The participants condemned the brutal assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti and demanded the arrest of the culprits at the earliest. They demanded the constitution of an independent judicial commission under the supervision of a High Court Judge to probe the assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti.
