Islamabad: The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Minority Affairs, Dr. Paul Bhatti has said the present government is committed to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for the enlightened, liberal, progressive and tolerant Pakistan.
He expressed these views while addressing National Interfaith Harmony Conference here on Monday. The chief guest was Minister for South Asia, Alistair Burt on the occasion.
He said we all believe that all religions speak of high value of equality, social justice and human rights and also professes fair, equal and just treatment for all humanity. Being followers of different religions, we all have to spread the message of charity, fraternity, justice, peace and harmony.
To protect the rights of the minorities and empower them is one of the top priorities of the Government. Interfaith Harmony is being promoted through our Ministry at International and National level. Many steps have been taken by the government for protection of minorities. We recognize the contribution and sacrifices of all minorities not only in Freedom Movement but also for the development and prosperity of the country. They are playing an important role in all spheres of life, he said.
The Advisor said the Government re-constituting the “Interfaith Harmony Committees” at district level throughout the country to create better understanding between the minority communities and the Muslim majority. 124 such committees are being established with equal representation of Muslim majority and minority communities.
He stressed on the need to collectively struggle for the betterment of society and welfare of the people of this country establishment of an egalitarian society has always been endeavour and policy of the government and we have to achieve the goal of peaceful society by promoting interfaith harmony.
Ulemas and representatives of minorities from all the four provinces attended the conference including Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Kabir Azad, Khateeb Badshahi Mosque Lahore, Maulana Roohullah Madni, Khateeb Markazi Mosque, Peshawar, Bishop Alexander John Malik, Bishop of Lahore, Bishop Rufin Anthony, Bishop of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Haroon Sarb Diyal, Chairman All Pakistan Hindu Right Movement, Peshawar and Sardar Mastan Singh, Sikh community, Nankana Sahib.
