Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani met here today.
The Cabinet reviewed the implementation status of Cabinet decisions regarding Ministries of Industries, Information Technology and Telecom Division. The Cabinet was informed that 95% decisions of Ministry of Industries were implemented, while 80% decisions of Information Technology and Telecom Division were implemented. The Cabinet was apprised that pending decisions require further consultation among stakeholders as well as negotiations with foreign countries in some cases. The Prime Minister directed for early implementation of decisions after requisite consultations with stakeholders at the earliest.
The acting Secretary Finance while briefing the Cabinet on consumer Price Index in the country informed that generally the prices of food items remained stagnant while the prices of non-food items showed some increase. The inflation, he mentioned is likely to show downward trend in the coming months. Despite lower growth in the previous financial year (2010-11), the inflation rate of Pakistan was almost near to the inflation rates in all the regional countries which had high growth rate during the same period. It was also mentioned that while international prices of sugar, wheat, rice, tea, cotton and oil increased at much higher rate. The increase of prices of these communities increased at lesser rate in comparison.
The Cabinet examined and deliberated in detail on the Draft Counter Insurgency (In Aid of Civil Power) Regulations 2011 for FATA and PATA in terms of Article 247 (5) and Article 247(4) respectively. The Cabinet approved the Draft Regulation which would provide legal cover to actions against the terrorists. It was observed that it was of paramount importance for the State to curb terrorists’ activities and bring the terrorists to justice.
The Cabinet discussed and approved the Draft Constitutional Amendment Bill 2011 which has been prepared in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court after the formation of Election Commission and appointment of Members of the Commission.
The Cabinet decided to reconsider and revisit the proposal on commercial import of non-prohibited bore Arms and Ammunition in consultation with all the stake holders. The proposal, it was mentioned be put up before the Cabinet accordingly.
The Cabinet approved the Delimitation of Constituencies (Amendment) Bill, 2011.
The Cabinet ratified the Framework Economic Cooperation Agreement signed between the Government of Pakistan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The Cabinet approved in principle for initiating negotiations on the draft Agreement on Cooperation against illicit Trafficking in Narcotics Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Chemical Precursors between Government of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The Cabinet approved the initiation of Negotiations to Conclude Agreement between Pakistan and Tanzania for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.
