Fifth ASEAN – Pakistan Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee Meeting

Islamabad: The 5th Meeting of ASEAN – Pakistan Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (APJSCC) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Syed Hasan Javed, Additional Secretary (Asia-Pacific), led the Pakistan delegation and co-chaired the meeting with Mr Bagas Hapsoro, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN.

APJSCC is a joint mechanism set up by ASEAN and Pakistan to review and oversee progress made in various areas of cooperation such as Trade and Industry, Investment, Environment, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Narcotics control, Tourism, Education, Agriculture and Human Resources Development.

The ASEAN Deputy Secretary General acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution as a valued Dialogue Partner of ASEAN and underscored the importance of Pakistan’s strategic position in connecting ASEAN and the Central Asian region.

Addressing the meeting, the leader of Pakistan delegation stated that Pakistan and ASEAN countries share common aspirations for peace, progress and prosperity for the region. He called for an early conclusion of FTA between Pakistan and ASEAN. He thanked member states on their support for Pakistan’s bid for Full Dialogue Partnership (FDP) Status.

The Pakistan delegation also called on the Secretary General of ASEAN, Dr. Surin Pitswan, and Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Mr. Triyono Wibowo.
