Islamabad, November 11, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met a 4-member delegation of ExxonMobil LNG Market Development Incorporation which was led by the president of the company Mr. Steven L. Lidisky.
Welcoming the Guests the Minister said that the developing Hydro-Carbon sector has been the foremost priority of the government. As the success rate is high in the exploration of hydro-carbons in Pakistan, many investors have shown renewed interest in the development of this sector. Keeping in view the importance of the energy sector and demand by the people we have recently approved LNG import for CNG sector through the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet, the Minister said.
The Minister said though the scourge of terrorism has discouraged investors in the past, that won’t be the case any more as the present government has a resolve to deal with this issue with an iron hand. The on-going Operation Zarb-a-Azab has cost the country around $1 billion and there is this huge problem of rehabilitation of TDPs. But this will pay us in future, Dar said. JETRO has claimed Pakistan to be the second choicest place for investors and we are making sincere efforts to make it so.
Mr. Steven L. Lidisky representing his delegation said that his company has over 30 years of experience in developing LNG sector and is happy to do business in Pakistan. Pakistan is an excellent market for developing LNG industry. He said “We have ample resources and had been doing business with countries like Korea, India, Canada and Alaska. Our approach is futuristic and we hope that the business will see robust development in Pakistan. We have interest in upstream business of production and exploration of oil and gas exploration”.
Finance Minister assured the delegation that the Finance Ministry shall provide every possible help to the delegation to start its business in Pakistan as development is the key word for this government. The meeting was attended by Mr. Rodrigo E. Diaz Vice President ExxonMobil, Mr. Peter E. Lundh, vice president, Michael Bennett, Manager ExxonMobil, and senior officials of the Finance Ministry.
