Karachi, February 25, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan International Airlines has started twice a week flight operation to Mashad, Iran now offering direct flights from Pakistan every Tuesday and Saturday with convenient timings.
The first flight PK 253 for the sector Lahore-Quetta-Mashad took off from Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday Morning. The passengers of the flight were seen off by Director Marketing PIA, Mr. Sohail Yaqoob and senior officials of the airline.
Federal Minister for Provincial Harmony Makhdoom Riaz Hussain Peerzada and Iranian Consul General Lahore, Mohammad Hossein Bani Asadi were the Guest of Honour. Government officials and senior media persons were also present at the launch ceremony held at Lahore airport.
Consul General of Iran in Lahore, Mohammad Hossein Bani Asadi expressing his views on the occasion welcomed the commencement of PIA flight operation to Mashad. He said that the flight will be beneficial for people of Pakistan and Iran and will further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.
Federal Minister for Provincial Harmony Makhdoom Riaz Hussain Peerzada said that PIA flight to Mashad will greatly benefit the Zaireen travelling to Mashad and thanked Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Mr. Shujaat Azeem, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Aviation on the commencement of PIA flight.
Director Marketing PIA, Mr. Sohail Yaqoob said that he was pleased to witness the commencement of PIA flight to Mashad, Iran providing direct flight facility to people of Pakistan and Iran. He said that the commencement of flight operation to Mashad fulfils the long standing demand of the people of Pakistan.
He said that on the instructions of Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif PIA has started flights to Mashad. The flight is being operated on pure commercial basis and today the flight is departing for Mashad with full load. He said that the airline plans to add new destinations to PIA network while increasing frequencies of its existing flights.
PIA is also planning to operate flights to Najaf, Iraq. He said that under the guidance of Mr. Shujaat Azeem for the revival of PIA, the airline is in the process of acquiring newer versions of fuel efficient aircraft to be inducted in PIA fleet and as soon as PIA gets the required number of aircrafts more flights will be operated. He added.
The flight PK 253 landed at Quetta airport where a ceremony was also held to greet the passengers for their onward flight to Mashad. Iranian Consul General in Quetta, Syed Hasan Yahyavi was present at Quetta airport among PIA officials and Media persons of Quetta region.
The passengers of the flight thanked the Prime Minister of Pakistan and PIA Management for their efforts in initiating direct flight to Mashad Iran.
