London: Foreign Secretary William Hague has welcomed the announcement of an investigation into the killing of Pakistani journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad.

“I was shocked to hear of the abduction and killing of Pakistani journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad. He courageously reported on the terrorism and extremism which has caused so much suffering to the people of Pakistan. His death highlights the dangers faced by those working for a stable Pakistan and our thoughts are with his family at this time of grief.

I welcome the announcement of an investigation. It is vital that this is thorough and transparent and that those responsible are brought to justice.”
