New York (IINA) � UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned Friday's attacks against the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in the city of Kidal, reiterating the UN's support to help implement the peace agreement in the West African country.
The Secretary General reaffirmed that attacks targeting UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes and called for the perpetrators to be swiftly brought to justice, said statement issued by Guterres' spokesperson.
The UN chief also offered his condolences to the families of the peacekeepers killed and wished those injured a speedy recovery. According to news reports, a UN Mission camp in Kidal, northern Mali, came under intensive rocket and mortar fire, killing three Guinean peacekeepers and wounding several others.
Al-Qaeda's affiliate in Mali claimed responsibility for the attack during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to a statement translated by SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors terror groups.
