Lahore, February 18, 2014 (PPI-OT): MNA Mian Hamza Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday assured the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) that all the genuine grievances of the affectees of Metro Expansion Project would be addressed and there would be no injustice regarding compensation.
Hamza Shahbaz Sharif was talking to a 12-member business delegation led by LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari. Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan and DG LDA Ahad Cheema were also present in the meeting which was attended by representatives of Badami Bagh, Sabzi Mandi, Ferozepur Road Chungi Amar Shidhu and Ravi Road including President Anjuman-e-Tajran Auto Market Waqar Ahamd Mian.
Hamza Shahbaz said that the ongoing development of infrastructure was aimed at facilitating the masses and not the other way round. He said that the government was quite conscious of its responsibilities and well aware of the problems being faced by the trading therefore it would not leave them alone.
He said that it was very much in the notice of the government that the affectees were not happy with the government compensation plan therefore necessary directions had already been issued to review it.
Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that compensation to all the affectees would be made on merit and no injustice would be done at all. About the shifting of the Sabzi Mandi, the MNA said that no such plan has so far been finalized and as soon as the plan is made the stakeholders would be taken into confidence.
The LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari thanked the MNA for giving a patient hearing to the business community issues and said that the LCCI was not against the development of infrastructure but what it wanted was due consultation with the area businessmen before launching any project.
The LCCI President also brought to the notice of the MNA the issue of raids at retail departmental stores and restaurants and sought his help to stop the District Administration from such coercive tactics.
Engineer Sohail Lashari said that the trade and industry were already facing multiple challenges due to shortage of electricity and gas therefore they need hand-holding by the government to continue their businesses.
