Islamabad: A three-day training workshop for External Evaluators of the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) was organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in collaboration with NACTE.
As many as 30 educators from all over Pakistan attended the workshop, which was aimed to prepare a selected group of external evaluators who may assist the Council as Master/ Lead Trainers for the training of new external evaluators, conduct accreditation visits and provide guidance for accreditation preparation to the interested institutions.
Dr. Vivienne Baum field, Professor of Pedagogy, Policy and Innovation at the School of Education, University of Glasgow, UK was the resource person. In her talk, she shared the quality assurance practices in other countries. The training also included discussions on National Accreditation Standards, Accreditation Tools, Documents and Procedures.
Speaking in the opening session, Mr. Fida Hussain, Director General (Quality Assurance Agency) HEC emphasized the need of quality assurance and the need for adding workforce to assist the quality assurance activities. He appreciated the efforts of NACTE to bring quality in teacher education. “Quality of teacher education institutions will ensure the quality teaching in the country,” he added.
Dr. Munawar Mirza, Chairperson, NACTE explained the background of Council’s establishment, its mandate and benefits of accreditation. She also explained how a national body like NACTE can facilitate uniformity of standards at national level as envisioned in the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
