Islamabad: HEC scholar Asim Gulzar has completed PhD from Imperial College London under Overseas Scholarship Programme (Phase-II). On his return, he has joined Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR) as Assistant Director, Research/Lecturer.
He completed his research entitled “Studies on resistance and associated fitness costs in Lepidoptera to Bacillus Thuringiensis toxins” under the supervision of Prof. D. J. Wright.
During his studies, he has worked on integrated pest management and resistance management. He investigated the effect of different temperature and entomopathogenic nematodes on the fitness costs associate with the insecticide resistance. He also investigated the mechanism of resistance associated with the Vegetative Insecticidal Protein (VIP) toxin.
The study provides important information in understanding the mechanism of resistance to VIP. His core expertise is in the field of insect toxicology and insecticide resistance management.
