Srinagar, June 19, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that India has adopted a rigid stance on Kashmir dispute and using different tactics to deny the Kashmiris their inalienable right to self-determination. Syed Ali Gilani addressing a gathering at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar said that the inordinate delay in resolution of the Kashmir dispute was taking a heavy toll on the Kashmiris. “Since 1947, people of Kashmir have been suffering due to delay in resolution of the dispute. For the past over two decades, thousands of Kashmiris were killed by Indian forces and India is holding Kashmiris hostage to its rigid stand on Kashmir,” he added.
The veteran leader said that the government of India as signatory to 18 resolutions on Kashmir in the United Nations and promises of its leaders was legally and morally bound to resolve the dispute.
“Kashmir dispute is not just a political problem but has assumed different contours. It has become an economic, religious, social and also a humanitarian problem. For lasting peace in the region, its settlement is imperative. It is high time for India to settle Kashmir in its historical perspective and the UN resolutions,” he maintained.
Syed Ali Gilani hailed Pakistan for its stance and commitment to resolve the dispute. “Government of Pakistan has been extending moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiris in their struggle for securing their right to self-determination,” he added.
