Islamabad: The leadership of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) join hands to foster Indo-Pakistan economic cooperation through meaningful collaborations in areas of mutual interests.
This was resolved in a meeting held in New Delhi between Pakistan business leaders Mr. Tariq Sayeed, Vice President CACCI, former and Founder President SAARC CCI and former President FPCCI, Mr. Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President SAARC CCI and former President FPCCI and officials of CII including Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, Ms. Supriya Bannerji, Deputy Director General and Mr. Manish Mohan, Additional Director, who discussed the mechanism to develop sustainable cooperation through establishment of Joint Ventures in industries with a particular focus on cooperation in SMEs.
The CII showed its interest to become a member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry and proposed annual get-together including B-2-B meetings and match-makings in specific areas and launching of website for exchange of business information. They agreed upon the frequent exchange of delegations and participation and organization of fairs and exhibitions on reciprocal basis.
Mr. Iftikhar Ali Malik said that an enormous potential was existed in the Automobile Sector, which could further be tapped through joint ventures and transfer of technology, which will help improve standards of manufacturing of Automobile in Pakistan.
Mr. Tariq Sayeed enlightened CII that SAARC CCI had done necessary amendment in the constitution, which allows two Chambers and Associations in addition to national chambers (already primary members) from each member states with an objective to broaden the scope of cooperation.
The officials of CII brief that CII has 9 centers of excellence, 64 offices in India and operates under a modern institutional framework constituting 100 Executive Committee Members and has global outreach through overseas offices.
Mr. Tariq Sayeed desires that during next visit to India, he would like to visit some cities of India, where CII has its offices, so that they would interact with the manufacturers in those cities.
