Islamabad: An Indonesian medical team is all set to leave for Pakistan within days for relief and assistance activities regarding the dengue epidemic in Lahore and other areas of the country. Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia, Sanaullah had made a special request to the Indonesian government to help control the dengue epidemic which was accorded prompt approval, says a press release received here today from Jakarta.
Agung Laksono, Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare last Tuesday received Ambassador Sanaullah for a coordination meeting with the 19 member team preparing to leave for Pakistan. Mr. Laksono said on this occasion that Indonesia’s prowess in disaster management as well as dengue fever had been recognised internationally. Sending of a team to control the dengue epidemic showed the Indonesian people’s concern for their Pakistani brothers.
Giving details about the team, Dr. Rita Kusriastuti, Director, Vector Borne Diseases Control, Environmental Health, Indonesia, said her country would be sending medical equipment, fumigation machines, blood analyzers and lab material to Pakistan. Three Paediatricians, two internists and field staff will also proceed to Pakistan to take part in the relief activities.
It may be recalled that Indonesia also sent two medical and support teams to Pakistan last year to help in the relief activities for flood affectees.
