Karachi, March 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan hosted 31st Board and Committee meetings of The South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) on March 9 and 10, 2014 in Karachi. The participants of the meetings included senior professionals from SAARC countries. Various task force committee meetings were held to discuss the broad objectives of the federation and strategies for ensuring its eminence in the world of accountancy.
Issues under discussion included quality control, intensification of Strategy to Combat Corruption in SAARC Region, implementation of Basel II Report in SAARC Countries, and Harmonizing the Evaluation Criteria being used by SAFA member bodies for giving BPA Awards. Emphasis was placed on establishment of transparency, accountability and corporate governance in the business and industrial sectors in the SAARC region.
Reinforcing International Relations, Improvement in Transparency, Accountability and Governance (ITAG), amplification of Small and Medium Practices were also important agenda items deliberated in the meetings.
A purposeful thought was given by the committee members on the Reviewing of the Existing Committee System, Education, Training and CPD, and invigorating up the Governmental and Public Sector Enterprises Accounting.

Raghu, President, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh- Mr. Showkat Hossain, President, The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh- Mr. Mohammed Salim, Vice President, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India- Mr. Manoj Fadnis, Vice President, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka-Mr. Lasantha Wickrema Singhe and Vice President, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal- Mr. Narendra Bhattarai.
