Srinagar, March 30, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, a Kashmiri youth detained at Central Jail in Srinagar has said that police had forced him into confession with third degree torture and blackmailing about a crime that he never committed. The youth, Ihsan Majeed, told his relatives in the jail that police also warned him that his mother would be stripped if he refused to take the blame of a murder of a student, whose body was recovered on a railway track in January this year.
Police arrested Ihsan Majeed on January 14. “I went to meet my son at Central Jail Srinagar,” Abdul Majeed, father of Ihsan Majeed, told media adding that he categorically denied murdering the student. “My son told me that he was forced into confession at Air Cargo camp of police in Srinagar where he was lodged after his arrest from Bandipora,” Abdul Majeed said.
“We will bring your mother here and strip her naked. Then you will see what happens,” Majeed quoted his son as narrating his ordeal. “My son had been forced to accept all the charges,” he added. Ihsan told his father that police took him to railway station on January 16 where he was threatened to be thrown under the moving train. “This boy is an irritant, throw him on the railway track and let the train crush him. And then we will tell his family that he committed suicide,” Ihsan quoted a senior police officer having told his men at the railway track, according to his father.
Majeed quoted his son as saying that a senior officer of the cargo camp warned him against retracting his confession. “Otherwise, we will get a knife from somewhere and say that you committed murder with a knife,” he quoted his son as saying.
The body of an engineering student, Owais Bashir, was found from Humhama railway track on January 12. Police claimed that Owais had a deep wound on the back of his head, but the autopsy report refuted the claim saying that the boy died due to fatal bleeding and there were torture marks on his body.
