Islamabad: Furthering Japan’s economic cooperation with Pakistan, the Government of Japan is extending Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA) of 300 million Yen (US$ 3.7 million) to the Government of Pakistan. The official Notes for the NPGA were exchanged today i.e. March 7, 2012 in Economic Affairs Division. Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, Secretary, Economic Affairs Division and H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Oe, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf of respective Governments.
This NPGA will be utilized to import the industrial goods manufactured by corporations in the hard hit disaster affected areas of Tohoku region in East Japan. Through this grant, medical and vocational training equipment will be provided to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) and Construction Technology Training Institute (CTTI), Islamabad.
This Non-Project Grant Aid is mutually beneficial for both the countries. This will not only contribute towards the improvement of medical services and human resource development in Pakistan but will also support local economy of East Japan which was heavily affected by the unprecedented earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
In the signing ceremony ,Mr. Hiroshi Oe, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan stated that PIMS and CTTI have been playing important roles in the socio-economic development for decades and he expresses his appreciation for PIMS and CTTI officials for their past efforts in making effective use of Japan’s official development assistance(ODA) .He expressed his hope that this project will contribute to strengthen the existing friendly relation between the people of Pakistan and Japan.
