Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar while highly eulogising the role and services of the tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar especially in coping with the disastrous situations has said, “in most difficult times, the Lady Reading Hospital has in particular been observed offering best of the available services, which really deserve for recognition and appreciation”. “Due to the tough times, we as a nation have gone through, especially in wake of militancy and terrorism followed by floods, the situation in our province has in particular remained more critical and difficult but the resilience and courage, which our people have demonstrated in confronting them is praiseworthy too”, he added.
He was addressing as the chief guest at the annual get-together of the faculty members of Postgraduate Medical Institute, LRH and Hayatabad Medical Complex as the chief guest in Peshawar wherein, a senior surgeon, Prof. Dr. Sajjad Ahmad was also dinned out on his retirement from government service. Dr. Shahid Ayub was adjudged the overall best teacher of the institute while, Dr. Nasreen Irabi and Prof. Tahir got the honours for being best teaching faculties at LRH and HMC respectively. Special award was also given to Dr. Hameed Afridi, Chief Executive of LRH for having been declared as the best disaster manager. The ceremony was also addressed by Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah, Vice Chancellor, Khyber Medical University and Prof. Dr. Azmat Talaat, Dean, PGMI.
This Institute, the Governor said, has come a long way in materializing the developments, what we can see in the medical profession across the province today and indeed it has contributed immensely towards postgraduate training in particular. However, he pointed out, being the members of a developing society, we also do realize the deficiencies, which the health institutions have been experiencing. Highlighting the importance of the role and services of the faculty members, the Governor said, the students come to them after clearing their undergraduate examinations and are supposed to step on a new milestone of their lives and obviously need more guidance, elaborate findings in their respective disciplines, which no doubt nobody else but the teachers have to provide. He expressed the confidence that the graduates of the institute will always keep the noble values of their profession at highest esteem in coming up to the expectations.
Appreciating the honourable way of acknowledging the services of retiring faculty members by their colleagues, the Governor also congratulated Dr. Sajjad Ahmad for successfully accomplishing the prime time of his professional life and wished him a healthy and peaceful life in future. Referring to the welcome address, presented by Prof. Dr. Azmat Talaat, Dean of the Institute, the Governor also wished him complete success in his efforts for further development of the organization and assured fullest possible support on his own behalf in the fulfilment of the given tasks. He also congratulated the faculty members, who were honoured in recognition of their extra-ordinary services.
Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah in his speech said, the Institute has been adjudged 3rd at the national and the top most at the provincial level for its best working. As far as the KMU is concerned, he said, not only the curricular at the graduate level in the medical colleges is being further upgraded but under a continued process faculty development is also progressing well and due to which the performance of the Institute will also be further enhanced, he added.
Earlier, Prof. Dr. Azmat Talaat while welcoming the Governor and the guests said that the Institute, since its establishment has produced 1150 specialists in various fields of health and with the increase in number of medical colleges, the Institute has also chalked out more workable plan for meeting its future needs under which Sub-Deans will be meant for Gomal, Saidu, Mardan and Ayub medical colleges.
