Karachi, November 13, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Managing Director, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Mr. Shoaib Warsi visited SITE Association of Industry for a wide-ranging discussion with the members and office bearers of the Association. The meeting between MD, SSGC and office bearers of SITE Association was also attended by a large number of industrialists of SITE area.
In his welcome address, Mr. M. Jawed Bilwani, Chairman, SITE Association of Industry underscored the point that SSGC is the vital part of a bridge between the policymakers and customers. He termed natural gas as the lifeline of the industry. He stressed that his Association had a major complaint with the gas utility regarding low gas pressure in SITE Industrial Area. Mr. Bilwani also demanded equal treatment to SITE Industrial Area in regard to the provision of gas. According to him, in other industrial areas of Karachi, gas with full pressure is being supplied while in SITE industrial area gas with low pressure is provided.
Chairman SITE Association, Mr. Bilwani also suggested that a focal person be assigned by the SSGC management to look into the industry’s billing, connection and other customer-related issues. He also demanded formation of a SSGC’s Help-Desk at the Office of SITE Association of Industry. He emphasized that the trade bodies must be taken into confidence in any decision-making process which directly impacts the industry.
During the meeting, Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala, former President-KCCI and Chairman of SITE Association admired Mr. Shoaib Warsi, MD, SSGC, for his leadership abilities and called him an honest and dedicated individual. Mr. Motiwala said that SITE Association’s experience with SSGC has always been positive and attributed it to the gas utility’s planning and operational competence.
In his short speech, Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala inquired about the status of gas supply during the coming winters terming the last winter like a dreadful dream. He suggested that in order to conserve the domestic sector, it is imperative that all the geysers running on gas should be converted into solar geysers and for that purpose, he proposed that SSGC should install the solar geysers and remove the existing gas geysers from every house of more than 400 square yards and the price of the solar geysers may be included in the bills recoverable in installments.
Addressing the members and office bearers of SITE Association of Industry, Mr. Shoaib Warsi, Managing Director, SSGC agreed with the point that industry should be given priority amongst all consumers as it provides employment to the general masses. He also agreed to a suggestion that SSGC should encourage use of solar geyser by financing or supplying these and recovering its cost in gas bills.
On this occasion, MD, SSGC also announced gas load management plan for the forthcoming winters, under which gas supply for industries will remain suspended for one day in a week. He expressed the hope that there would be no problem of gas in the coming winters, as under the 18th Amendment, 100% of all gas reserves discovered in Sindh would be added to SSGC.
Regarding recent low gas pressure in SITE industrial area, Shoaib Warsi said that SSGC compressors at Hyderabad tripped which caused low gas pressure. According to him, these compressors have now been restored and gas pressure will be normal.
Mr. Warsi further said that SSGC had installed LPG-Air Mix Plants for various towns of Balochistan and Sindh to supply Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) as an alternate to piped natural gas through gas distribution network. However, he informed that LPG Air mix has not yet been supplied to any part of the Karachi.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Warsi pointed out that as a part of its long-term strategy, SSGC has been proactively playing the role of facilitator to achieve the ultimate aim of bridging the demand-supply gap.
