Islamabad, November 26, 2012 (PPI-OT): Mr Farooq H. Naek, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs called on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at PM House this morning and discussed at length the forthcoming reference being filed by the President before the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek opinion in the matter of appointment of Judges in the superior courts.
During the meeting questions to be posed to the Supreme Court for its opinion were discussed in detail.
The Prime Minister directed the Minister for Law to prepare a reference to settle all issues in a transparent manner as per letter and spirit of the constitution.
The Prime Minister said that the government has always abided by the constitution and has taken recourse to constitutional remedies whenever an issue has arisen where one of the organs of the state or a point of law is under question.
Appreciating the advice given by the Law Minister for filing of a reference in the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister said that it will not only further improve relationship with the judiciary but also bring clarity to the process of appointing judges as well as reaffirm the government’s policy that all institutions should work in harmony and in consultation with each other without interfering in each other affairs.
The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that the filing of reference will enhance the respect of state’s institutions in the eyes of common man which will strengthen democracy and state’s institutions in the country.
The government intends to file a reference in order to obtain the advice of the Supreme Court under Article 186 of the Constitution, inter alia, with regard to the appointment of Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court as well as the confirmation of the judges of Islamabad High Court.
