Karachi: Provincial minister for Information Technology Raza Haroon has directed city district government Karachi to bring all those vehicles and road cleaning machinery on roads which were presently stationed at Machinery Pool due to repairing works.
During an unscheduled visit of City Government Machinery Pool and Workshop at Mewashah on Friday with EDO Municipal Services Masood Alam he instructed to arrange for minor repairing in these vehicles and machinery within 24 hours.
Taking strict notice of that the vehicles and machinery had been stationed in machinery pool after developing minor faults he directed concerned department to devise such a system where such faults in vehicles could be removed immediately.
He also issued directive for distribution of these vehicles and machinery among the towns on equal basis and their usage in cleaning works.
The provincial minister also instructed to set up garbage transfer station at the outer edges of towns so that the removed garbage could be dispatched to landfill site easily.
Meanwhile Minister Raza Haroon paid a visit of various towns to check the ongoing cleanliness drive in city. He was also visiting city during night hours and without prior information to the town administration where he particularly inspecting areas from where complaints about garbage dumping were received.
On Friday and on the night intervening Friday and Saturday, the minister, paid unscheduled visit of more than 11 towns of city including Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal, Bin Qasim, Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Lyari, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Malir.
During the visit of Malir Town, provincial minister Raza Haroon had while taking strict notice of the absence of any garbage transfer station directed to setup a GTS within town limits on permanent basis so that the garbage produced in town could be speedily shifted to landfill site.
In Shah Faisal and Gulberg Town, he instructed concerned officials to take special care while choosing right location for setting up of GTS.
While inspecting the development work of storm water drains at Nagan Chowrangi, he instructed to complete this work prior to the start of rains.
The provincial minister strictly directed town administrators to ensure swift lifting and disposal of garbage to landfill site within their areas.
He said those towns which did not have enough machinery or vehicles should make alternate arrangements but must refrain from dumping garbage in sewage lines or storm water drains and on open places.
The minister observed that ongoing cleanliness campaign had though got some improvement but still it needs more progress, therefore, he said the civic bodies should make more joint efforts so that overall sanitation condition in city could improve further.
He also directed to continue 24 hours cleanliness work at city government and town level by deputing staff on shifting basis. He also appealed to citizens to register their complaints about garbage dumping on 1339 so that immediate action could be taken on it.
