Islamabad, March 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Housing and Works Barrister Usman Ibrahim has taken a serious notice of fire eruption on 9th floor of Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat on last Sunday, which burnt the record of the Estate Office.
While chairing a meeting today, the Minister directed to constitute a three member committee to investigate the incident and find out the exact cause of fire. The Minister expressed his apprehension that “some corrupt elements want to sabotage the smooth practice of allotments as per General waiting List (GWL) which was started by the incumbent leadership”.
The Minister stated that Estate Office has back-up of all allotments and burnt record would be reconstructed by reconciling it with the record present in the Ministry. Moreover, if needed a door to door survey would also be conducted to complete the allotment record, he added.
“In January 2014”, the Minister said, “Ministry of Housing and Works issued 42 allotment letters of government owned housing units to registered government employees of General Waiting List (GWL) and another list of around 50 available houses is being prepared”.
Besides, the Minister has called a weekly meeting of Estate Office to keep the Ministry abreast about the progress of ejectment proceedings. The Minister emphasized that ejectment process should be accelerated so that the deserving, would be accommodated as soon as possible.
The Minister added “we are committed to follow the directions of Superior Court and determined not to violate it in any case by issuing any out of turn allotment”.
The Minister hoped that if the same procedure of issuing allotment on merit would be kept in practice, it will lead to a corruption free system and would abridge the trust deficit between public and government. The meeting was attended by Tariq Bakhshi, Joint Secretary Housing and Works, M. Saleem, Deputy Secretary (Estate) and Pir Ashraf, Estate Officer.
