Islamabad, November 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): While commenting on a news item published by a section of press regarding non-release of development funds troubling Pakistan Railways. The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Railways has clarified that PSDP funds are released by the government on quarterly basis and we have already received two releases of the 3.3 billion each well in time. As such, there is no issue regarding non-release of development funds at all. In fact, we have a balance of Rs. 3.6 billion in our account for development projects, which will be utilized by end-December.
There is, however, an issue regarding the release of subsidy by the Finance Division to cover salaries and pension, and we are not receiving the additional impact of increase in salaries and pension within the budget of 2012-13, which is leading to financial constraints and impeding our ability to discharge our liabilities. Although it is also correct that our revenues have declined over the years due to reduction in freight and passenger operations, we have earned Rs. One billion more in the first 4 months this year as compared to the corresponding period of previous years.
