Islamabad, March 16, 2016 (PPI-OT):The National Assembly Standing Committee on House and Library met under the Chairmanship of Deputy Speaker, National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi in Parliament House today. The Committee discussed the matters pertaining to non-implementation of recommendations of the House and Library Committee regarding the election of Management Committee of National Assembly Employees Cooperative Society (NAECHS) and handing over the possession of plots to the members of the NAECHS.
The Committee expressed its concern over the election of Management Committee of NAECHS in which casual members of the Society were elected unopposed as the office bearers of the Society. The Committee observed that neither of the Office bearers were Employees of the National Assembly or Senate Secretariat. The Committee directed the ICT Administration to find a legal solution to declare the election of Management Committee null and void. The Committee observed that Casual Members of the Society cannot protect the interests of the Employees of the Parliament.
The Chief Commissioner ICT apprised that committee that the elections were held on the advice of the Legal Advisor of the Cooperative Department and the AGM of the Society can only annul the decision. However, he assured that the handing over of plots to the members of the Society who had deposited full payment of the plots would be ensured.
The Committee decided to visit the site of the Society to examine the development work and physical position on ground besides distribution of the allotment letters to the Members. The President Jinnah Cooperative Housing Society informed that 226 plots were ready to be handed over to the Members and the rest would be handed over in due course of time. The Committee did not agree with the President Jinnah Housing Society and directed him to fulfil his earlier commitment.
The progress of construction of Additional Family suites of Parliament Lodges was also discussed. The Committee directed CDA to accelerate the pace of work on the project and to ensure its completion up to September, 2016. The Member Engineering CDA apprising the Committee about the present status of work. He said that 40% work on the project had been completed and CDA was monitoring the progress on daily basis.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Malik Abrar Ahmed, Ch. Jaffar Iqbal, Dr. Mahreen Razzaque Bhutto, Mrs. Shahida Rehmani, Maulana Qamar-ud-din, Secretary National Assembly and senior officers of the CDA, ICT and National Assembly Secretariat.
