National Assembly Speaker to attend 5th SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians Conference

Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza will leave for New Delhi, India today i.e. 7th July, 2011 to attend 5th summit conference of the SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians being held in New Delhi from 9th to 12th July, 2011. The conference is being hosted Ms. Meira Kumar Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha.

A four member parliamentary delegation comprising of MNAs Mr. Mehmood Hayat Khan Toochi Khan, Mrs. Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Ms. Kashmala Tariq and Ms. Tasneem Siddique will accompany Speaker National Assembly.

The four day conference will be inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister on 9th July, 2011. The participants of the conference would ponder upon variety of subjects which include consolidating democracy; strengthening trust between parliament and people, sustainable development in SAARC countries and other issues concerning masses and would formulate recommendations for consideration by their respective governments.

The Speaker National Assembly during her stay in New Delhi would separately meet with her Indian as well as other counterparts from SAARC countries and discuss augmentation of existing bilateral relations between their respective legislatures. The Pakistani MPs will also avail this opportunity to interact and exchange views with their colleagues from the SAARC region.
