Islamabad: Chairman National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Muhammad Mumtaz Akhtar Kahloon has said that NAVTTC would fully facilitate Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) for imparting technical training of readymade garments to unskilled work force. NAVTTC would take it as a model project for readymade garments industry. He said this while talking to 3 member delegation of PRGMEA led by Ijaz A Khokhar Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
Chairman said that PRGMEA has already been running Pakistan Readymade Garments Technical Training Institutes (PRGTTI) one each at Karachi and Lahore for Male and Female work force under joint venture with Ministry of Textile Industry. PRGTTI Karachi has so far produced 10,000 while 7,000 work force has been passed out from PRGTTI Lahore for readymade garments industry. Now the PRGMEA has chalked out its plan to establish another PRGTTI at Sialkot with self fundings.
This new training institute will cover the young jobless work force of 2900 villages around Sambrial, Daska, Wazirabad and Pasroor of Sialkot region. At present PRGTTIs are meeting only 42% skilled work force of the total demand of textile sector of the country. Chairman further told that the export of readymade garments at present is US$1.79 billion annually and their major client is Europe. This export can be doubled within next 3 years provided required skilled work force is available as there is pressing demand of readymade garments from overseas.
Chairman NAVTTC Muhammad Mumtaz Akhtar Kahloon while welcoming the delegation in his office said that the PPP Government knows very well the shortage of skilled workforce in every developing sector of the country and fully realizes the importance of skilled manpower as it is prerequisite to country’s economic development. Resultantly the Federal Government has started two programmes “President’s Funni Maharat Programme” and “Prime Minister’s Hunarmand Pakistan Programme” throughout the country in its backward areas on priority basis to produce skilled manpower.
Federal Government appreciates the move of PRGMEA to establish PRGTTI at Sialkot and NAVTTC assures to extend every kind of support to PRGMEA in conducting courses of skilled manpower. We would be able to provide training facility to jobless youth particularly female at their door steps through PRGTTI Sialkot which would help in the growth of cottage industry of readymade garments as well as reducing poverty in Sialkot region. The government with the help of the business community will succeed in bringing economic prosperity in the country Insha’Allah, he added. The other members of delegation include Sohail Afzal CMC Member of PRGMEA and Kamran Yousuf Sandhu Director Project and Principal of PRGTTI Lahore.
