Islamabad: Federal Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar has asked the power distribution companies to improve their efficiency and recover the amount from running and the old defaulters.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of the Discos to review their performance and recovery status.
He asked them to announce incentives for the employees to recover amount from the old defaulters. He said that improvement in the recovery will help to enhance fuel supply to power units resultantly increase in the power generation. The Minister said that as per the figures, the companies have recovered 90 % of the recovery target but stressed the need for further improvement ion the recovery. He also asked them to take stern action against the power theft. A survey may also conducted to know that whether the defaulters are not getting power from other resources or kunda. He said that power theft is a crime and the ministry has proposed increase in the imprisonment and fine amount in this regard. Mr. Qamar also asked all the companies to reduce their line losses and asked the four companies belong to Sindh, Balochistan and KPK to submit their recovery plan to the Ministry.
To avoid any mishap, arrangements should be made in the monsoon season. He also directed them to make available stocks of transformers and immediately replace in case of complaints of faulty transformers. He again asked them to disconnect the connection of private and government consumers without any discrimination in case of non-payment of bills. The field staff may be asked to adopt friendly attitude with the consumers.
