Lahore: A six-member media delegation of Nepal visited the Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) here at New Campus on Thursday. Advisor the VC Col (R) Ikramullah Khan, Director External Linkages Maria Maldonado, Centre Director Prof Dr Ambreen Javed, Principal Oriental College Prof Dr Mazhar Moeen and other faculty members welcomed the delegation. The members of the delegation included Hiranya Lal Shrestha, Dorji Tsering Sherpa, Deependra Rokaya, Deependara Muni Bajracharya, Biswas Baral and Krishna Giri.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran briefed the delegation about the academic and research programmes of the varsity and said Nepal was the only country where people of different religions lived peacefully whereas although being a secular country, it carried republic values at social level. He said Nepalese students had been studying in various programmes at the varsity and PU had allocated special seats and scholarships for the students.
Dr Mazhar Moeen briefed the delegation about various departments of Oriental College and 15 languages being offered at the Institute of Languages . The delegation agreed on provision of teacher for teaching Sanskrit at PU on a request made by Dr Mazhar. Dr Ambreen Javed briefed the delegates about the academic and research activities being carried out at the Centre. She stressed on academic’ exchange programme. Hiranya Lal Shrestha appreciated the academic activities of CSAS. Later the delegation visited the Main Library.
