Islamabad: A Pakistani groom and a Chinese bride tied the nuptial knot in the Chinese city of Fu Shen in Shenyang province on July 3, says a press release received here today from China.

The wedding was called Pakistan-China friendship wedding because the young couple met while studying in the US.

Pakistan and China are celebrating 2011 as the year of friendship because of the 60thanniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Hasan Farooq, bridegroom, is a banker and Shu Feng, the bride, is an academic.

Hasan is the son of General Agha Farooq, President of National Defence University (NDU) of Pakistan, while Shu Feng, is the daughter of Feng Chun He, Principal of a school.

What is most striking about the union was that Hasan and Feng’s elegant wedding ceremony in a local hotel was concluded in just one and a half hours. Pakistani and Chinese guests applauded the couple amidst enthusiastic chants of “Long Live Pakistan-China Friendship.”

General Agha Farooq and Mrs. Farooq had travelled all the way from Islamabad to attend the wedding and receive the bride in the family.

Madam Wang Guifeng, Mayor of Fu Shun county in Liaoning province, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Masood Khan gave their blessings to the couple.

General Xiao Tian Liang, representing National Defence University of China, Senior local Military Commander Ming Yao Dong, three Vice Mayors and two Deputy Secretary Generals of the Fu Shun County, Brigadier Fahim-ul-Aziz, Defence and Army Attaché and First Secretary Faraz Zaidi also attended the wedding.

The ceremony displayed an impressive mix of Chinese and Pakistani cultural traditions. The guests while delivering their speeches on the occasion highlighted the theme of enhancing the Sino-Pak friendship through this cross cultural wedding.

Prior to the wedding Ambassador Masood Khan met Madam Wang Guifeng. During the meeting she expressed her desire of developing cooperation between Fu Shun and Pakistan in the fields of industry and agriculture, particularly the import of world famous fruits from Pakistan.

She informed the Ambassador that Fu Shun is a highly industrialized city developed as a thriving centre for fuel, power and raw materials. She said the city has a population of 2.3 million and is offering more opportunities in textile and electronics.

Ambassador Masood Khan invited the Mayor to lead a delegation to Pakistan to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation.

He said with this wedding Pakistan and China have also become good relatives in addition to being good friends, neighbours, partners and good brothers.
