Islamabad: An impressive ceremony was held at the Ambassador’s Residence this morning to mark Pakistan National Day. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of flag by Ambassador Khalid Aziz Babar to the accompaniment of national anthem. says a press release received here today from Tehran.
The Ambassador read out the message of President Asif Ali Zardari whereas the message of the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was read out by MMH Jaffari, the Press Counsellor. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador paid rich tributes to the founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the leaders of Pakistan movement.
He said that this day reminds us of those momentous times when our fore-fathers rallied around the dynamic personality of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and under his inspiring leadership resolved to carve out for themselves an independent sovereign country.
Referring to Pakistan-Iran relations, the Ambassador said that Pakistan and Iran share six decades of close fraternal relations which have grown stronger over the years. He called upon the members of Pakistani community to play their effective role in promoting positive image of Pakistan in Iran and bringing the peoples of the two countries ever closer, to each other.
The Ambassador said that Pakistan and Iran share common perception on international and regional issues and closely cooperate in various world fora. Pakistan and Iran understand and appreciate each other’s position on different regional and international issues.
As both counties are founding members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), they are working together to promote cultural and economic cooperation among the member states of the organization. He said Pakistan and Iran are equally determined to fight the scourge of terrorism as both are the victim of terrorism and oppose it in all its forms.
Commenting on the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, the Ambassador said that Pakistan was committed to the project as it would lay solid foundation for economic collaboration and bring economic progress and prosperity in both the countries.
The students of Pakistan International School in their presentations paid homage to the father of the nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the leaders of freedom struggle. A group of children presented Mili Naghmas.
The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by a large number of Pakistani community, officials of the Mission, ECO Secretariat, students and teachers of the Pakistan International School.
