Islamabad: Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura, Member of the House of Representatives, Japan and Director of the Parliamentary League for Polio Eradication, Japan and Dr. Hisoumi Niki, Member of the House of Representatives and the Executives of the Parliamentary League for Polio Eradication in Japan called on the Federal Minister for Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Engr. Shaukat Ullah here in his office in Islamabad.

“The Minister said: Like Japan, the Parliamentarians of Pakistan are also working for the awareness campaign for the eradication of Polio in Pakistan”.

Like other parts of the country the Polio Eradication Campaign has also started in FATA and the Polio Vaccinator teams are now working in accessible areas.” Everybody is committed to eradicate this scourge from the country” the Minister said:

The Minister told the delegation that not only in FATA but in the camps of the Afghan Refugee, where more than 2.7 Million Refugees are residing the Polio Campaign is being with complete vigour.

“FATA is a far flung and backward area of the country and is also adversely affected due to war on terror. The social infrastructure and other facilities have been destroyed. Though it is hampering the campaign but to protect their children from the crippling disease, people are determined.

On this occasion the Head of the Japanese Parliamentary Delegation Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura told that Japan has extended its soft loan of approximately US$ 65 Million to the Government of Pakistan for Polio Eradication in Pakistan. This loan would be utilized to procure 165 Million doses of Oral Polio Vaccine and to raise allowances for Vaccinators of Polio Eradication Campaign.

The Minister thanked the Government and people of Japan for their generous assistance for the Polio Eradication in Pakistan, which is indeed a global challenge on public health.
