Karachi, May 24, 2012 (PPI-OT): National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is all set for another hike in the power tariff by PkR 2 per unit after the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requested it to raise tariffs under the monthly fuel adjustment formula for April 2012.
According to Alfalah Securities Limited, fuel cost on the generation of electricity for April was PkRs 9.69 per unit while the reference fuel cost of electricity stood at PkRs 7.69 per unit hence, an increase of PkR 2 per unit is being made for the consumers by the regulatory authority. Nepra has raised power tariff for the second time in a week as an increase of PkRs 2.38 per unit was already made on Tuesday i.e. May 22, 2012. The fuel cost is passed on to end users under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism. Rising power tariffs led by an increase in cost of power production would boost inflation across the economy and would add to the woes of the people.
