Islamabad, May 11, 2012 (PPI-OT): Rights activist Jahangir Akhtar will embark upon a hunger strike unto death from Saturday to protest discriminatory attitude of the authorities towards residents of Tehsil Kallar Syedan.
In a statement issued here today, he said that he has tried best to divert attention of authorities towards the miseries of the masses but to no avail.
The people of that area, some 54 kilometre away from Islamabad are living in Stone Age, without access to proper electricity, roads, education and basic health facilities.
The area is located on the bank of River Jehlum where there is no facility while on the other bank people enjoy all the facilities which is a discrimination, he said.
There are seven schools in Kallar without a single teacher while there is no road, while on the other side in the AJK there is an extensive network of quality schools, roads, electricity etc.
Jahangir Akhtar said that Kashmiri brethren got compensation after upraising of Mangla Dam put no one among affectees of Kallar Syedan were paid.
Locals are being systematically deprived of right to live decently and peacefully while the elected leadership also continues to ignore their plight.
Jahangir Akhtar said that he will continue hunger strike unless government allocate additional funds in the upcoming budget for this neglected area.
