Karachi, May 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): Urea off-take in Pakistan declined by 36.6% to 308,000 tons in the month of April 2012, as per NFDC data.
According to Alfalah Securities Limited, the local manufacturers sold 151,000 tons of urea while imported urea sales stood at 157,000 tons as compared to 404,000 tons and 82,000 tons respectively during the same period last year. Cumulative sales of urea during 4M (Jan-Apr 2012) stood at 22% lower than last year at 1.3 mn tons. The urea sales of Engro, Fauji Fertilizer Company, Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim and Fatima Fertilizer stood at 30,000 tons, 75,000 tons, 19,000 tons and 1,000 tons respectively during April, 2012. The decline in offtakes is affected by higher prices, and delay in sowing for Kharif season. The higher sales of imported urea would hit the offtakes of the local fertilizers.
