President urges EU to take note of persecution of minorities by India

President Dr Arif Alvi says Pakistan is committed to protect and promote human rights and ensure the strict enforcement of labour laws in the country.

Talking to the visiting European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore in Islamabad, he said Pakistan has taken a number of legal and administrative measures to protect the children and minorities’ rights.

He also expressed concern over the human rights abuses by India against minorities, particularly in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and urged the European Union to take note of the persecution of minorities by the Indian government.

Speaking on the occasion, Eamon Gilmore appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for hosting of millions of refugees over a long period of time.
